Freedom Project

Alison pioneered the Freedom Project over ten years ago with Pastor Enock at the Church of God’s people. Sadly Enock passed away in lockdown and since that time Evan has helped to oversee the day to day running along with Pastor Jeanine, Enock’s wife.

Based in Kigali Rwanda, the Church mentors and trains groups of women involved in prostitution in dressmaking. Many women have become followers of Jesus through attending the project.

The Freedom Project provides women with an alternate way of earning money and to also avoid the dangers and abuses they risk as sex workers.

The course is carried out over 12 months and, on completing the course, each woman is given a certificate to enable them gain employment or to begin a new business.

How you can help women escape the sex trade

A single donation of £10 will pay for a place on the course for a month.

A single donation of £100 will sponsor a place for the full 12 month course.

A regular donation of £10 per month will sponsor a woman right through the course each year.

A single donation of £145 will provide a woman graduating the course with her own sewing machine.

In 2021 Alison was asked by a Pastor in Bugesera if she could help with a group of women he had gathered. These women were so broken from life and traumatised having suffered sexual and physical assault.

We agreed that we could do something. Over a period of time Alison and two women Pastor friends shared with the women over zooms enabling them to begin to see their value.

We have gone on to enable them to also train in sewing through the support of generous Churches and when now they have graduated they have set up as an association to work as a community.

The God of love is always close to the broken hearted and waiting to come and restore peoples lives.

Francine's story

Before Francine found the Freedom Project, she was a prostitute and she would meet men so she could afford to buy food. Now she makes her own clothes, and clothes for others. She has learnt new skills and she can feed her family. The Freedom Project has given her so much hope for her future.

Elizabeth’s story

When Elizabeth first joined the Freedom Project she felt sad and angry. The project not only taught her to sew, but how to pray too. She found peace. Elizabeth has been able to transform her life, and has hope for her future.
