The Main Thing

Missional Hub: Bugesera Pastors

We have had a great time this month through our online equipping session’s in Rwanda and India.

As leaders, it is very easy to let the main thing of the why we do what what we do slip. Through the sessions we have been sharing ideas and teaching on the importance of keeping Jesus as the main reason of why we do what do. We have explored what that means for each of us as we all have a personal relationship with Him.

Most were challenged when we saw how all too easy it is to begin to neglect our personal walk with God by putting the requests and needs of those around us first. Whilst there is no condemnation as it can happen to any of us as we go through the twists and turns of life. It is good to be aware of when this is happening and look to make some amendments in ourselves. Our personal walk with Jesus is so vital as none of us can pour from an empty place.

Two questions we put to the leaders are - how can we build a strong relationship with Christ? What are we going to do? The Pastors discussed the questions and came up with the following answers. We may find their answers helpful for our own walk with God, enabling us keep the main thing in sight.

1. To build a relationship with Christ we found out that we need as leaders we need to to put Christ first before are responsibilities and tight schedules, because these are the things that rob us of our time with Jesus.

2. We need enough time to fellowship with Jesus in prayers.

3. We need to to give Jesus a room in our hearts to become our leader and guide in all we are doing.

4. We also have to give our families enough time, because our families are our first ministry.

5. Lastly, we need to have enough time to relate with Jesus by spending time reading God's word. As leaders some times we spend almost all our time doing home visits and other pastoral work and fail to have time in the word (the Bible) with our Father.

In conclusion:

This question Alison, is very powerful and it has challenged us to evaluate ourselves to see if we are still working in the truth of God. We have also taken time to be in prayer over these things and acknowledge where we have been taken by the ministry and other things and ignored the main thing which is loving Jesus and having enough and quality time with Him. Thank you for the teachings.

Special thank you to all of those who help to support this vital part of the ministry - equipping and caring for those who lead others.
